From August 26 to 28, military exercises will be held in Latvia's eastern Latgale region, which borders Russia and Belarus, to improve the anti-mobility capability of the National Armed Forces (NBS) and the readiness to deploy engineering obstacles, according to an army press release.

"The purpose of the exercise is to train the cooperation and compatibility of National Armed Forces units in the execution of anti-mobility tasks, in order to prepare for the comprehensive national defense exercise "Namejs 2023" to be held in the Fall," the NBS said.

The Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Ground Forces and units of the National Guard will take part in the military exercises.

As part of the exercise, military equipment columns will move along public roads and populated areas in Vidzeme and Latgale. Residents should not be surprised to see temporary traffic restrictions on the A6 highway in the Krāslava district during the training period and are asked to cooperate.

The comprehensive national defense exercise "Namejs 2023" organized by the national armed forces will take place from September 5 to October 2 throughout Latvia.
