About 250 participants will take part in the exercise, including soldiers, national guardsmen and civilians from the Air Force, Ground Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade, National Guard, Lithuanian Armed Forces and units of the Czech Armed Forces.
"The purpose of the training is to train and professionally prepare specialists in the short-range air defense missile systems RBS-70 and GROM by conducting practical combat firing exercises at air targets. The 1st Riga Brigade of the National Guard will provide support with 81mm caliber mortar crews, providing air targets for shooting with GROM and RBS-70 systems," said a release from the National Armed Forces (NBS).
During the training, the Navy will ensure security acoss the training site in Latvia's territorial waters of the Baltic Sea.
From June 1 to 10, during air defense combat firing from 12.00 to 24.00, sea and air safety zones will be closed to other traffic and in compliance with safety requirements, there will be restricted movement along the coastal zone of the Baltic Sea within the boundaries of the Jūrmalciems military range. Entry into the range area will also be restricted.
The National Armed Forces ask local residents citizens to be understanding about the ongoing exercises and any loud noises they might hear.
