Overall, VNĪ has entered into agreements with six companies – Citrus Solutions Ltd, Hagberg Construction Ltd, Nords Construction Ltd, LSC “Latvijas Autocelu Uzturetajs”, “P and P Būvniecības grupa” and Baltic Construction Company Ltd (BCC).
Five National Armed Forces crews will begin construction of the first border fence in early April. Citrus Solutions Ltd and Hagberg Construction Ltd will start construction work on the border fence in mid-April.
It is planned that the entire fence could be completed by the end of 2024, but the construction of particularly difficult sections (about 28.35 kilometers) has been determined by government decision to be completed by October 25 2025.
The construction of the remaining infrastructure is planned until the end of 2025.
Currently, the border strip infrastructure is built at around 230 kilometers.
The Latvia-Russia border is 283.6 kilometers long. VNĪ's priority is the completion of the infrastructure already built and the construction of a fence in stages where there is none. Currently, a fence of about 100 kilometers has been built on the Latvian-Russian border.
Some 180 kilometers of fence and at least 53 kilometers of border protection infrastructure are yet to be built.
A substantial part of the border strip at the Russian border has already been deforested, enabling the fence to be built more smoothly.
