Three Russian planes identified above Baltic Sea

British Royal Air Force and German Air Force destroyers in the Eurofighter international airspace above the Baltic Sea identified three Russian reconnaissance planes on Wednesday, Latvian Radio reported.

Russian military aircraft “flew once again without transponders switched on”, the German Air Force said on Twitter.

German and British air forces over the Baltic Sea identified two Russian Air Force destroyers “Su-27” and one reconnaissance plane “Il-20.”

Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have no combat planes, so since 2004, NATO's allied forces have been patrolling the airspace of the Baltic States.

Russian planes often fly close to the airspace of the Baltic States. Last year, NATO jets had picked up more than 200 times to respond to incidents.
