Flag-raising ceremony marks 20 years of Latvia's NATO membership

20 years ago, on March 29, 2004, Latvia joined the North Atlantic Treaty, becoming a member state of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Latvia, along with Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia, was invited to join NATO at the alliance's meeting in Prague in November 2002.

To mark the occasion, on Friday, March 29, at 08:00, with the participation of the President Edgars Rinkēvičs, the NATO flag will be raised in the Tower of the Holy Spirit of Riga Castle. From 07.40 a solemn guard of honor ceremony will take place at Riga Castle.

NATO was founded 75 years ago on April 4, 1949, and the 32 member states remain steadfast in their unwavering commitment to protect each other and every inch of Allied territory.
