56 people stopped from crossing Latvia-Belarus border overnight

After the announcement on the state of emergency in the Latvia-Belarus border area Tuesday evening, the State Border Guard with the assistance of National Armed Forces could stop and deter 56 people from crossing the border illegally, LETA reported August 11.

On Tuesday, August 10, while the state of emergency had not yet been announced, 77 border offenders were detained, adding to the over 200 immigrants caught over the past few days.

Interior Minister Marija Golubeva will visit the border area Wednesday to coordinate the works regarding enhanced border surveillance and setting up accommodation for migrants.
