Border guard orders two new helicopters

Latvia's state border guard has ordered two helicopters from manufacturer Leonardo, with an option on a third, the company said in a press release January 2.

"Leonardo has announced that the State Border Guard of Latvia has signed a contract for two AW119Kx single engine helicopters, plus option for an additional unit, customized configuration, and aircrew/maintenance technician training services," the company said.

"The aircraft will be delivered from the company’s facility in Philadelphia in 2019, and it will perform a wide range of missions including search-and-rescue (SAR), transport, firefighting, and disaster relief — replacing two ageing AB206B JetRangers."

The value of the deal was not specified, though this aviation pricing website suggests the typical price of a similar AW119Ke is around 3.9 million US dollars.

The border guard signed the deal with the company on December 27.

The AW119Kx is a single engine helicopter able to accommodate up to six passengers.

Nearly 300 AW119 helicopters have been ordered to date in almost 40 countries by over 120 customers. You can read technical specifications of the chopper HERE
