Latvia's national armed forces (NBS) reported July 6 on the presence of several Russian naval vessels not far from the national border in Latvia's exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea.

In quick succession, the NBS identified first two Tarantul-class frigates just 4 nautical miles (9 kilometers) from Latvia's sea border.

Also spied was a Sura-class tender named 'Kilektor' 15 nautical miles from the sea border.

A landing vessel by the name of 'Alexander Shabalin' was seen 12 nautical miles from the sea border.

According to Russian news agency TASS, around 20 Russian navy ships of the Baltic fleet are currently conducting exercises in the Baltic Sea, which include amphibious landings.
