Don't be surprised to see U.S. military on the roads in May

Members of the public should not be surprised or alarmed to see considerable amounts of military equipment and personnel on the move in coming weeks bearing the Stars and Stripes.

From May 2 to 12 in Kurzeme, Zemgale and Vidzeme regions the movement of U.S, military equipment columns will be taking place along the routes Liepāja - Ādaži base; Liepāja - Lithuanian border; and Liepaja - Estonian border. All U.S. military equipment will be transferred to heavy-duty trailers, and the columns will be accompanied by the Military Police, the National Police, or the Relocation Coordination Center.

On April 18, more than 350 items of military and support equipment from the United States Armed Forces were delivered to the port of Liepāja. From May 16 to 27, this equipment is planned to be included in several international military exercises under the banner: "Defender Europe 2022" , which will take place simultaneously in several countries of the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe.

The exercises planned in the territory of Latvia within the framework of "Defender Europe 2022" are part of the spring phase of the military training cycle "NAMEJS 2022", which will take place throughout May and combine four more international exercises: "Knight Legion", "Swift Response", "Summer Shield" and "Hedgehog", as well as the tactical level military field exercises of the National Armed Forces.

The National Armed Forces call on the inhabitants of Latvia's regions to show understanding and obey traffic instructions on national and regional roads.
