Interior Minister: border guard are coping with migrant influx to Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Although more and more migrants are attempting to enter Latvia illegally, the State Border Guard is coping with this situation, Interior Minister Marija Golubeva told Latvian Radio December 21.

She pointed out that it is currently very difficult to judge whether Latvia has become the main target of the Belarusian hybrid attack, or whether some groups of people have moved or have been moved closer to the territory of Latvia.

“But in any case, the number of cases is still within those limits that the border guards are dealing fairly well with those people at the border, including, of course, still coordinating with everyone else – police and border guards,” the minister said.

She added that Latvia is prepared to attract additional forces in case of increased attempts to enter the country illegally. If necessary, the National Armed Forces will also be attracted.
