Latvia-born U.S. special forces soldier killed in Afghanistan

A highly experienced Latvia-born soldier serving with U.S. special forces has been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Washington Post newspaper reports.

The US embassy in Riga posted a link to the story and expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased over the fatality of Army Sergeant 1st Class Mihail Golin, 34, who had served in the U.S. military since 2005.

Four other members of Golin's unit were wounded in the incident in Achin district, the U.S. military said.
