Latvian Defense Minister Raimonds Bergmanis on December 4 started a working visit to neighboring Belarus.

The Bealrusian foreign ministry showed a meeting between Bergmanis and foreign minister Vladimir Makei.

"During the meeting, the parties discussed current Belarusian-Latvian relations and possible areas for further development of bilateral cooperation, including the military sphere, as well as the situation in the region and in the world," a press release said without going into any further detail.

By the looks of Bergmanis' Twitter feed he was given a warm welcome.

He mentioned in a subsequent tweet that his hosts had praised the Latvian foreign ministry's "pragmatism" on various important regional issues.

The visit continues until December 6 and will also feature a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Defense Minister Lieutenant General Andrei Ravkov, who visited Latvia a year ago.
