Nearly 100 migrants turned back over weekend on Latvia-Belarus border

Another 96 people's attempts of illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian State border were prevented over the weekend, according to the State Border Guard.

On Friday, September 3, 43 people were denied entry to Latvia, on Saturday, September 4 the figure was 29, whereas on Sunday, September 5, there were 24 more.

No people were detained for having crossed the border illegally.

In total, after the state of emergency was announced on August 10 in the Latvia-Belarus border area allowing the border guard to promptly deny entry and return migrants to the country of origin, 954 people have been denied entry into Latvia.
