A new ammunition depot comprising six warehouses meeting the national and NATO requirements was opened at the Adazi military base not far from the Latvian capital Riga on Tuesday, the Latvian military news portal Sargs.lv reported Tuesday.
In line with a plan for long-term development of the Latvian National Armed Forces infrastructure, the construction of a modern ammunition depot began at the Adazi base five months ago.
The project was implemented for the national defense purposes but, if necessary, Latvia can use it also to provide the host nation support to Allied forces.
The tender for construction of the ammunition depot was won by UPB company. The contract price was €1.6 million.
