Pabriks did not reveal any of the potential new base locations, but he added that “there are three places in mind”.
The only international military base in Latvia is currently located in Ādaži, and the capacity of this base and region has been exhausted.
Pabriks said that Defense Ministry looks primarily at other regions, and regional development is an important factor that will be taken into account at the location of the new base.
“We also look at the fact that there is some development for the regions. (..) So that local businessmen can also engage in supplies and other ways," the defense minister added.
