Rīga NATO Strategic Communications Center releases malicious social media research

Take note – story published 4 years ago

The Rīga-based NATO Strategic Communications Center of Excellence (STRATCOMCOE) has an interesting new report out looking at the malicious use of social media.

Titled Trends and Developments in the Malicious Use of Social Media and written by Jakob Willemo, the research provides a handy summary of common and not-so-common means of deceiving, misleading and generally being bothersome online. Experts in the field provide commentary and case studies illustrate the main points while giving hints as to likely future trends.

Inevitably, Russian efforts to weaponize social media and spoile things for everyone else play a prominent role.

The report is available to read and download from the STRATCOMCOE website. You'll be safe if you choose to do so... probably.
