Spanish F-18s will be flying close to Rīga this week

Take note – story published 3 years ago

From August 25 to 28, don't be surprised to hear the roar of jet engines north of Rīga as the National Armed Forces and the NATO enhanced presence in Latvia will be taking part in training exercises around Vangaži.

During the training, air support controllers will improve their skills in air support procedures, assisted by Spanish F-18 fighter jets, which are currently patrolling NATO airspace over the Baltic states.

Members of the public may also see the movement of soldiers and military vehicles on the ground during the military exercises. No live ammunition will be used during the training and the National Armed Forces are calling for understanding from the local population for the short-term noise nuisance that may result from the flyovers.

All military aircraft  will fly only at the altitudes and speeds specified in regulatory enactments, and there should be no harm caused to people or property, the Ministry of Defense said.
