The conference was launched with speeches from Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis and Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid in which they stressed the need for clear and accurate information, and vigilance against fake news and propaganda.
Vejonis signed off with what he said was a quote from the Buddha: "Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth."
But in the context, his speechwriters might have done well to fact-check their attribution as it is in fact a popular internet meme based on a paraphrase from the early 20th century of a longer Buddhist text.
