School-picking tool wins HackCodeX hackathon

The second international programming hackathon, “HackCodeX”, which took place in Rīga last week, named the “SkolaGuru” team the authors of the best solution, developing a tool to help parents choose the best school for their child based on their interests and other factors, the organizers said June 6.

The organizers said that the challenge of creating a tool that would help reach the best choice for schools was raised by the Ministry of Education and Science, along with “EPAM Systems.” This challenge, if taking into account only the panel's votes, was won by the “” team, which offered to decide on school choices using data on school performance, an assessment of the learning methodology and available options, as well as individual measurements.

Meanwhile, in the challenge of an international IT company, Emergn, to use artificial intelligence models to help build an inclusive environment for people with disabilities, two winners were chosen. The “T3mplate” team developed a physiotherapy app that uses artificial intelligence, while the “Eye Get It” command helps turn speech into images. The “Eye Get It” team also received a special award from the Latvian Investment and Development Agency as an idea with the largest start-up potential.

The challenge of creating a tool that, through artificial intelligence, would allow working more effectively, was put forward by Atea Global Services. The DigiTex team won this category, which taught artificial intelligence to recognize important information from a variety of printed documents, invoices or images to promote the digitization of documents.

On the other hand, the beginner-friendly challenge of “Ubiquiti” and “Riga TechGirls” recognized the “ConsiderUsed” solution as the best idea, which helps to find used alternatives to the goods you are looking for by promoting sustainable consumption of goods and recycling.

The music challenge posed by GameChanger Audio was won by the GPR team, which worked on a solution that could detect the corresponding tunes when playing music in real-time.

In the hackathon, 43 teams competed for creating the best solution, developing solutions for one of the five programming challenges.
