Future women programmers wanted from Latvia and Estonia

Until January 24, women ready for a career change have the opportunity to apply for a free 12-month training and reskilling program dubbed 'WoTech', where they will have the chance to learn basic programming skills and receive support that will help them prepare for a job change.

The opportunity will be given to 100 women from Latvia and 100 women from Estonia. The program is organised by Riga TechGirls in cooperation with the Estonian NGO Smartwork Academy, reports Labs of Latvia.

The goal of the WoTech training program is to provide the participants with both knowledge and experience over 12 months so that after its completion, the participants have the opportunity to obtain the positions of junior specialists in IT companies. As part of it, the participants will not only have free programming training, where they will gain knowledge of both programming languages and artificial intelligence and its use but will also be taught valuable soft skills, as well as gain practical experience. The start of the program is planned for March 2024.

“Since 2016, Riga TechGirls has provided more than 15 reskilling programs, in which more than 2,000 women have participated. We are proud of the interest, motivation and strong growth of our graduates. This is the first cooperation program of its kind with a partner organization in Estonia, which will provide an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge about the labour market in Estonia as well,” said Anna Andersone, CEO of Riga TechGirls.

The program will take place remotely in English, and to participate in the training, the most important selection criterion is the participants’ motivation and willingness to devote time, as well as basic computer skills and at least 3 years of work experience after finishing high school. It will consist of 6 months of programming training, of which the classes will take place every week on two weekday evenings and one weekend morning, totalling 8-12 hours per week. Immediately after the programming training, webinars will be organized to provide the participants with soft skills, while to officially complete the program and obtain a certificate for it, the participants will also need to go on an internship in an IT company of their choice.
