Healthcare and IT popular choices among university applicants in Latvia

In the first round of applications to universities, the most have been received at the University of Latvia (LU) and Rīga Technical University (RTU), LETA reported on July 24.

The number of electronic applications approved by LU in all priorities is 19,764, but 4,694 applications have been approved as a first prioritys. Together with applications handed in onsite, the number of approved applications exceeded 20,000. Of a total of 20,062 applications, 4,775 were approved with first priority.

On the other hand, the number of electronic applications approved by the RTU reached 12,156 in all priorities, while 2,337 were accepted as first priority. Together with onsite applications, the total number was 12,345, of which 2,385 were accepted as first priority.

Among the approved applications, most of these are studies in the LU study programs “Medical Care”, “Computer Science”, “Psychology”, “Communication Science”, “Law Science”, “Preschool Teacher” and “Business Management”.

Among the approved applications for studies in other universities, the most popular are RTU programs “Computer Systems”, “Architecture” and “Information Technology”.

The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is not included in the joint system.

The contest in the joint application system will take place in two rounds as usual. The results of the first round are scheduled to be announced on July 28, and second-round results on August 1.
