The LU Senate brought up the matter at the end of March. About a week later, Lembergs himself announced that he had sent a letter to LU Rector Indriķis Muižnieks and the Senate about giving up his status.
LU Senate Vice-President Dace Balode explained that although Lembergs had sent an application for renunciation of his status, decisions taken by the Senate can only be reversed or annulled by the Senate itself.
38 Senate representatives voted in favor of the decision to revoke Lemberg's title, while two abstained on the vote.
