For the first time, Riga has been included in the annual list of the world’s best student cities compiled by the British Quacquarelli Symonds company, reported LETA on August 2.

The QS Best Student Cities rating, published on the organization’s website, lists Riga 110th among an overall of 120 cities. Lithuania’s capital Vilnius was listed 95th, while no Estonian city has made the list.

The three best student cities are London, Tokyo and Melbourne.

The criteria for the list include university ratings, student mix, desirability, employer activity, affordability, and student view.

Riga’s highest score was in the "student mix" indicator, a credit to the diversity of the city’s students and its inclusivity.

The authors of the list note that Riga boasts three leading universities, all of which are ranked in the the QS World University Rankings - Riga Technical University, Riga Stradiņš University, University of Latvia.
