Pļaviņas hydropower plant goes into overflow mode

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Over the weekend, water flow at the Pļaviņas hydroelectric power plant (HES) has reached levels too high for full energy production and the overflow gates are now open, Latvenergo told newswire LETA on April 2.

The last time the overflow gates were opened was six years ago. Latvenergo encourages visitors to take a peek at the temporary waterfall while observing safety regulations. It is impossible to predict how long the gates will be open.

The flow of water to the HES is over 3000 cubic meters per second and all ten hydro-aggregates are working at full capacity.

As reported earlier, this spring, there will probably be the largest floods in a decade in the Daugava river basin.
