Eagle eggs named in honor of singing eggs

The Latvian Fund for Nature (LDF) has made a fun decision to name the eggs in the livestreamed nest of the Durbe white-tailed eagles.

The two eggs are named in honor of the Latvian music band 'Olas' ('Eggs') – they are given the names Arvis and Žanis, just like the band members.

This was done after the band played a short song live on the radio last week together with the singer Esmeralda, tributing the eagle eggs. LDF representative Liene Brizga-Kalniņa told Latvian Radio 5 that the fund does not usually name eggs but that this time was special.

"Of course, the band Olas and all live stream watchers must remember that nature is unpredictable and the eggs can meet different fates, but let's hope that the nesting will be a success and Arvis and Žanis will bring us healthy eaglets," said Liene Brizga-Kalniņa.

You can watch eggs Arvis and Žanis, as well as the parents Milda and Hugo, in the live stream below.
