Big Cleanup to take place April 27 in Latvia

April is here, meaning the annual Big Cleanup is also coming. This year, organizers are delighted that all the local authorities will participate in the works, Latvian Television's 4. studija reported on April 3.

The Big Cleanup with the theme "Clean. Green. Long." will take place this year on April 27, and everyone in Latvia is invited to participate. To prepare properly for cleanups, you can sign up on talkas.lv. as an individual or a group. You can either join an existing cleanup crew or register your own.

The head of communications of the Big Cleanup, Anna Blaua, said tagging the site on the cleanup map did not impose any obligations. She explained that it was essential for people not to go clean in any which way, leaving trash bags packed, which no one collects afterward because there had been no information that there would be a cleanup place here.

Also, since 2015, the mobile app "Environmental SOS" (Vides SOS) has been running, where every resident can declare environmental violations. Last year, 4,030 violations were recorded in the Vides SOS throughout the year, close to 900 so far this year.

Statistics show that infringement submissions are seasonal and the peak is seen around spring when snow melts and clean-up work begins.
