Rīga's public toilets get an upgrade

To avoid the stay of homeless people in Rīga public toilets and prevent damage to the inventory, the local government has started equipping several public toilets in the capital with payment card (POS) terminals so that they can only be accessed using a card.

POS terminals are planned to be installed in 17 toilets (52 stalls in total) with no on-duty cleaners. Currently, the terminals have been installed in several locations and their testing is continuing.

The installation of terminals, taking into account the results of the procurement process, is carried out by Hansab, and works are planned to be completed by the end of February.

The fee for using these toilets is planned at 50 cents.

As has been the case so far, most toilets will continue to operate free of charge in Rīga.
