The largest grass fire was recorded in Rēzekne municipality, spanning 2.5 hectares.
169 grass fires have been extinguished in total this year, with 106 over the Easter holidays.
21 fires were extinguished in Vidzeme, 35 in Rīga and its vicinity, 17 in Zemgale, 11 in Kurzeme, and 22 in Latgale.
There were also two forest fires and 17 rescue operations.
“Two people were rescued from the fires, one was unfortunately injured. But bigger fires, where major resources were involved, were in the Dienvidkurzeme region. On Friday, a building was burning in a 300-square-meter area involving 22 firefighters, rescuers, and the Grobiņa firefighters' formation. But the fire was successfully extinguished. That was the biggest event over the holidays. But in general, the holiday has been quite peaceful,” Ilmārs Pūce, the chief operating officer of VUGD, told Latvian Television on April 10.

Although burning grass is prohibited, penalized, and preventively campaigned against, the 'tradition' has not at all diminished. The State Fire and Rescue Service is entitled to impose a fine on individuals up to €280 and up to €1,000 on legal persons for burning grass.
