Beloved white-tailed eagles' nest falls from tree in storm

Take note – story published 1 year and 1 month ago

The camera-equipped nest of Durbe white-tailed eagles has fallen from its spruce tree due to strong wind on Wednesday, according to an entry on X by the Latvian Fund for Nature (LDF).

LDF reports that the nest has already fallen three times and each time the birds successfully restored it and continued nesting. If the nest is not restored in this tree, however, it will be built by the eagles in a different location.

LDF expresses its determination to follow developments around Durbe. If a new nest is built, the LDF will assess the possibility of installing a live cam system at it.

The Durbe nest has been streamed live since 2015. It is possible to comment on what is happening in the nest at the “Dabasdati.lv” forum in Latvian and the “Looduskalender.ee” forum in English.
