'Blue Flag' received by 12 beaches in Latvia this year

The coveted "Blue Flag" certification has been awarded to 12 Latvian bathing places and one marina in the summer season for 2024, according to the Foundation for Environmental Education.

The Blue Flag is a certification given to beaches by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). A beach that has been awarded the blue flag means that it meets the organization's standards of environmental management. These standards are for water quality, safety, and public environmental education.

Bathing sites have to meet 33 criteria, while marinas have to meet 38.

The Blue Flag for the 2024 season has been awarded to:

  • Ventspils City Beach,
  • Liepāja's South-West Bathing Beach,
  • Liepāja's bathing beach at the stadium,
  • Limbaži Lielezers bathing site,
  • Liepāja Beberliņi bathing site,
  • Riga Vecāķi Beach,
  • Jēkabpils Radži water reservoir bathing site,
  • Daugavpils Stropu Lake bathing site,
  • Daugavpils "Stropu Vilnis" bathing site,

The Blue Flag certificate has also been awarded to Liepāja Marina, a yacht port of the Liepaja Special Economic Zone.

The Mārtiņsala bathing site in Kuldīga and the Abragciems bathing site in Tukums have been awarded the National Quality Certificate for Bathing Sites.

Last summer, 11 bathing sites and one marina received Blue Flag certificates.
