Bird Days events to chirp across Latvia

On the first weekend of April, “Bird Days 2024” will take place in many parts of Latvia under the auspices of the Latvian Ornithological Society. The program envisages more than 40 events, including bird-watching hikes, birdcage workshops, educational classes, and other thematic activities, organizers said.

Interested parties who intend to participate in the events are invited to contact the organisers of the event in due time, as some of them have a limited number of participants.

The Latvian Ornithological Society also invites everyone to report bird observations on the dabasdati.lv website.

For those who are prepared not only to observe birds but also to report on what has been observed, this year special attention is being paid to the nests of white storks, as the 8th international survey of white stork nests takes place in Latvia this year. It is an event that takes place once a decade to track changes in the nesting population and nesting success of the white stork in Latvia, explaining the causes thereof, and tracking changes in nest location and foundation.

A detailed calendar of Bird Days 2024 events is available here, while a map of event venues, which is still being complemented by new activities, is available here.
