Water pipeline ruptured in central Rīga; traffic limited

During construction work on Ģenerāļa Radziņa embankment in the center of Rīga, a water pipeline has been split, resulting in a flood, LETA reported April 28.

As reported by Riga Water on Twitter, the water pipeline was ruptured on Maskavas Street 2, resulting in a flooded carriageway under the Railway Bridge.

The emergency drainage of the water is in progress.

Until the water is removed, traffic will be limited or closed.

Public transport company Rīgas Satiksme says that the traffic of trams on routes 2 and 10 near the Central Market is stopped due to the rupture. On the other hand, route 1 trams run on the Jugla-Stacijas Square route, and route 5 trams are running on the Stacijas Square-Mīlgrāvis route.

It was initially reported that the water pipeline was broken during the construction work of Rail Baltica. The Rīga City Council informed that it was actually a subcontractor for the integration project into the cityscape.
