Skanste park project will be finished, says Rīga City Council

On Wednesday, November 29, Rīga City Council decided to allocate an additional EUR 9.3 million to the Skanste revitalization project, Latvian Television reported.

As reported earlier by LTV and LSM, the project of the development of the Skanste district park is not doing well – from the settling of the foundation and sinking communications to pollution problems, the project has lost a lot of money and is at a standstill.

The first works contract between the city's development department and the association of individuals, RR-eko, was concluded in March 2020 and was scheduled to be completed in December this year, but problems with inappropriate soil were identified around the beginning of last year.

In order not to lose the European Union funding, it is planned to complete the project by the end of next year.

“Those who provided us with a service in design and possibly construction were not at the highest level, and we suffer from that. As a result, we will certainly go to court. There are currently some expert opinions ready and some in the process. Then when there is a full picture, we will not leave it that way,” said Rīga Mayor Vilnis Ķirsis (New Unity).

10 million euros have already been invested in the project and the total costs have increased from 19.5 million euro to 21.5 million euros.
