Another bird-cam installed in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years and 5 months ago

A new bird species - the bittern (Botaurus stellaris) joins the live broadcasts of the Latvian Fund for Nature (LDF) birds, said Liene Brizga-Kalniņa, LDF representative. The live nest is in Lake Engure.

The bittern is a bird whose strange voice is heard by many, but the bird itself has been seen only by a select few as it lives in the reeds and is an expert at camouflage.

The nest-watching season will be relatively short, as the baby leaves the nest at three weeks of age. The bitterns build a new nest every year.

There are already four eggs in the livestreamed nest.

The nest can be watched here.
