The calf has started walking with his mother and getting to know the world. After some time, the mother will encourage the baby to supplement its menu with grass, leaves of trees and other delicacies. Older calves are very curious and gladly spend time researching the surroundings and going on longer walks.
As usual, the father does not get involved in the parenting. In the meantime, mother Mirga looks after her baby full-time.
“Unlike does or deer, moose mothers are very protective of their babies, and when they feel threatened, people can be attacked. Therefore, when you see or find a calf, you must not come close to it, but go away,” said the DAP. The fur of newborn does and deer is mottled, whereas a moose calf has a rusty coat.
