The organization will meet on Tuesday with Minister for Environmental Protection and Regional Development Māris Sprindžuks (United List) to discuss its proposals on this issue.
Henriks Danušēvičs, head of the trade association, said: “We need to figure out how to exit this situation so that small traders can meet the requirements of the law on the one hand and ensure hygiene in their stores and not threaten their business on the other. We have proposals to increase the area for those stores that are obliged to collect deposit packaging [..]. We believe that mandatory requirements must be imposed from the supermarket format, but small ones must participate voluntarily."
