Drama in white-tailed eagles' nest

Take note – story published 2 years ago

A turn of events in the live-streamed white-tailed eagle nest: an unknown female eagle has eaten the eggs laid by permanent inhabitant Milda, while her partner Voldis watched, LETA reported March 24.

The Latvian Fund for Nature's live stream project leader Jānis Ķuze said that he had not witnessed such events before.

The female eagle Milda had recently got together with a male eagle named Voldis by the viewers as a tribute to Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Ķuze said that such an occurrence is probably linked to the fact that Voldis is young and inexperienced, so he did not try to stop the strange female from gobbling up the future eaglets. Ķuze also forecast that the female would return and conflicts could continue.

Last year, Milda's eggs froze and the eaglets perished. It is still hoped that this year there will be life in the eagle nest in Durbe, as Milda could lay some more eggs this year.
