Residents are reminded to comply with fire safety requirements, such as making campfires only in specifically designed areas. This year, the State Forest Service has already registered 83 forest fires.
The Forest Service's representative Zigmunds Jaunķiķis said: “Every year we carry out these fire statistics accumulation and analysis, the main cause is carelessness, there are still cases of malicious activity. But the main reason for outbreaks of fires is human activity or inactivity.”
He urged residents not to light fires in unsuitable places, not to drive motor vehicles offroad and not to toss cigarette butts and matches on the ground.
