The caraway grows in the wild all throughout Europe, except the Mediterranean area. The plant has been cultivated for centuries and used in culinary and herbal medicine. In Latvia, it is particularly famous for its presence in the distinctive Jāņu cheese.
Experts from the Botanical Society said that over the past decade the plant has become less common.
"It is difficult now to find a meadow where you could go and pick a bunch of caraway, which was taken for granted in the past decades," said the experts.
