Water levels reached record levels in January near the Zeļķi Railway Bridge. This time, ice accumulation is a concern.
Jēkabpils civil protection specialist Tālis Zalva said that “no area has been flooded” at the moment.
“Something may have gone a little off at the bottom of the Daugava, but it may not be seen because of the previous January ice. But so that someone would have an area, a house, or a meadow flooded, no,” Zalva said.
The cities of Jēkabpils and Pļaviņas currently have a lower risk of flooding. However, the situation may change rapidly, so for the time being the Latvian Environment, Geology and Metrology Center does not predict whether the yellow alert will have to be extended.
