Latvian deposit system now accepts more types of packaging

Take note – story published 1 year ago

As of January 1, the packaging of syrups and several alcoholic beverages which weren't included in the deposit system before are now accepted, representatives of the Deposit Packaging Operator (DIO) said.

For the new deposit products, a transitional period is set to run until June 30, 2023.

The deposit system will now accept the packaging of all alcoholic cocktails with an alcohol content of up to 15%, as well as all types of alcoholic beverages bottled in PET bottles and cans. This can be, for example, vodka, brandy or wine in a plastic bottle, or other beverages.

It will also be possible to hand over bottles of syrups, such as berry and fruit syrups. It is recommended that the syrup bottle be rinsed before being returned.

All new deposit packages will be labeled with the Latvian deposit mark after July 1, 2023. Until then, both labeled and unlabeled packages will be sold.
