Plant wonders: Linden tea chase

Take note – story published 4 years and 5 months ago

The linden bloom time this year coincides with rainfall. Since tea is only harvested in dry weather, you must ready on your feet for the moment, said Raimonds Lignickis, owner of the Rūķīšu Tēja (Dwarf Tea) family company on July 1.

The blooms are ready for harvesting when the budding has opened and the flower spreads the dizzying smell of readiness. The period of flowering and, consequently, tea harvesting, lasts only a few days.

In folk, the blooms are known for their anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. But linden-flower tea, with its rich taste reminiscent of summer, is a favorite drink, not only when a cold is creeping.

Although this tea is very popular, from the point of view of the gathering, the large flowers are rather imperial, said the tea grower Lignickis: “The flowers bloom for three or four days, depending on the heat.. All blooms, however, do not bloom at the same time - there are earlier and later varieties'.

The teas should only be collected in dry weather.

When asked whether morning or evening would be more suitable for collecting blooms, Lignickis replied that this year, given the wet weather conditions,"you must now catch moments between rain”.

The flowers may be dried on paper which must be placed above floor level. “Even if there is paper at the bottom, the blooms on the ground can get moldy. The paper should be raised where the air is circulating," said Lignickis.
