Take note – story published 3 years ago

Around two tonnes of young pike are being released into Lake Jugla on the outskirts of Rīga October 21 to re-stock the waters.

According to a Rīga City Council release, some four thousand juvenile pike fry will find a new home in the large lake, having been raised on the "Ūdensrozes" fish farm of Stalbe parish, Cēsis district.

The purchase and release of juvenile fish is financed by the Housing and Environment Department of Riga City Council from the funds obtained by collecting a fee for the use of commercial fishing rights in inland waters and on the sea coast.

The release is coordinated with the Fish Resources Research Department of the Scientific Institute for Food Safety, Animal Health and the Environment "BIOR". The aim of its activity is to create a scientific basis for the sustainable use of fish in Latvian waters in the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Riga and inland waters.
