Whale whale whale, what have we got here?

Take note – story published 2 years ago

A suspected whale sighting has been reported in late March in the Gulf of Rīga opposite Ragaciems, said Nature Conservation Agency's expert Valdis Pilāts.

Pilāts received a video with what is thought to be a humpback whale's tail, recorded March 26.

It is not the first time a whale is seen nearby: in August 2014, one was seen near the coast of Sweden. In 2012, ornithologists observed an unknown floating object identified as 'most likely whale'. In summer 2006, a dead humpback whale was found on the Vidzeme coast near the port of Skulte.

The researcher calls on anyone who filmed or photographed something unusual at sea this spring and suspected it to be a whale to report it to [email protected].
