Parents urged to talk summertime safety with children

With the school year ending on May 31 an the long summer vacation starting June 1, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) is urging parents to have a summertime safety discussion with their children to help avoid injury and tragedy during the school break.

June 1 also happens to be Global Day of Parents.

Suitable topics include safe swimming practices, food safety, the importance of knowing where children are and how long they will be out, and making sure everyone knows the number to call in an emergency is 112.

For Latvian speakers the VUGD does have some fun learning materials available for young children that might help get the message across: https://www.vugd.gov.lv/lv/media/409/download?attachment

Separately, Rīga Airport was reminding parents of things to bear in mind when travelling with children and noted that it is International Day for the Protection of Children.
