Vēža pacienta Gabriela ārstēšanai trūkst vēl 30 000 eiro

Tens of thousands still needed for young cancer patient's treatment

With just €22,000 to go, the treatment of Gabriels Mutors, a 19-year-old afflicted by a malignant tumor - neuroblastoma - could soon be fully funded. Of the almost €500,000 needed to keep the young man alive, more than €460,000 has already been donated, Latvian Television reported October 6.

Next week, Gabriels will be back in Gailezers Hospital to start the second of his five immunotherapy courses.

"Gabriels is one such case where we see a young man in need of treatment being separated from future life by a lot of money. Gabriels is close, close to us donating the full amount!" said Rūta Dimanta, head of the charity Ziedot.lv.

Initially, the family was in despair. The state only reimbursed EUR 14,000 of the almost half a million euros needed. This is also the largest amount of donations raised for one person in the history of Ziedot.lv.

"Our sincere thanks go to everyone who was moved by Gabriels' suffering, and especially his parents, and those who helped in solidarity. A little more and everything will be donated to Gabriels! Thank you everyone!" said Dimanta.

Gabriels has been supported by over 21,000 donors. You can donate to Gabriels' treatment here.

To help those in a similar situation, where there is no money for tests, medicines, or surgery but it needs to be done immediately, donations will also be collected at this year's public media charity marathon "High Five!". What happened to Gabriels was one of the reasons for choosing this particular cause.
