No more mandatory face masks in Latvian medical establishments

Due to the decreasing risk of contracting Covid-19, it has been decided to remove the requirement for mandatory use of facial masks in medical establishments and in long-term social care facilities, the Ministry of Health said on May 9.

Such changes were supported by the government on Tuesday.

It is planned to allow medical institutions and social care centers to request the use of face masks within the institution as deemed necessary by the establishment.

The Ministry said that outbreaks with a very high number of Covid-19 infections in Latvia and the world have recently stopped, as well as Covid-19 is more often mild, and fewer patients with the primary diagnosis of Covid-19 are admitted to hospitals.

Therefore, the spread of infection no longer poses as high a risk to the healthcare system as it was before.
