1,255 Covid cases, 27 deaths Sunday in Latvia

A further 1,255 new cases of Covid-19 infection were added to Latvia's tally November 7, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of that total, 861 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 394 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 231,824.

Of 8,434 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 14.9% were positive, almost twice the rate of the previous day, though it should be noted that far fewer tests were performed during the last 24 hours, which may help explain the difference.

The 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population dropped again from 1597.7 Saturday to 1545.0 Sunday, boosting hopes that the current infection wave may be past its peak.

Unfortunately 27 more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed, one fewer than the previous day. All were aged 40 years or over. 23 of the victims were unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated while four were fully vaccinated.

The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,499.

Saturday data show 1,488 patients being treated in hospital (down on 1,532 on Friday) with 215 patients displaying serious symptoms.

Meanwhile in Estonia there were nearly 1,000 cases and 15 deaths in the last 24 hours and in Lithuania there were more than 2,000 cases and 25 deaths.
