Hands-free crutch donation campaign launched in Latvia

Every day, soldiers in Ukraine suffer critical leg injuries. The Entrepreneurs for Peace Foundation invites Latvian companies and every supporter of Ukraine to participate in the "Help Get Back on Your Feet" donation campaign to send hands-free crutches to Ukrainian soldiers who have suffered in the war, the Foundation said October 14.

In response to the appeal of neurosurgeons Jānis Šlēziņš and Raimonds Mikijanskis, the campaign plans to use the donations to purchase hands-free crutches. This will enable the injured patient to move, work, and participate in everyday life immediately after the lower leg injury or surgery, thus immediately regaining some normality.

In total, the campaign plans to supply 2,000 units of crutches for the rehabilitation of injured Ukrainian soldiers.

The initiator of the campaign, Jānis Šlēziņš, said: "In circumstances where hundreds and thousands of civilians and military personnel are suffering severe foot and lower leg injuries every day as a result of the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, it is important for me as a human being and a doctor to take action to contribute to the support of injured people.

"Every hands-free crutch we jointly provide and send "gets one person on their feet" and makes one person walk! Get up and walk! In addition, if the crutch becomes unnecessary for the first person, it can be used by another person, thus extending the effect to several people."

The Entrepreneurs for Peace Foundation was set up on the first day of the Russian attack, bringing together more than 300 Latvian entrepreneurs, and has so far sent a total of more than €11.8 million in aid to Ukraine. Among the aid items sent are more than 550 drones, 135 generators, 8,800 items of military equipment, 600 vehicles, 100 night vision devices, 670 mobile charging stations, and other technical items, as well as more than €1.5 million worth of humanitarian aid and support to Ukrainian hospitals. Similarly, the Entrepreneurs for Peace Foundation has already implemented and continues to implement a number of reconstruction projects to provide immediate assistance to Ukrainian civilians in the Chernihiv region.

The official cooperation partners of the Entrepreneurs for Peace Foundation are the Ministry of Defense, the National Armed Forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Police, the State Border Guard, as well as the "Ziedot.lv" Foundation, the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia, and others.
