Latvia sees stabilization in Covid incidence

Latvia is seeing a slight stabilization of Covid-19 cases, the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said December 20.

293 cases of Covid-19 were laboratory confirmed last week (a week ago 339), out of 888 (previously 821) laboratory tests.

The SPKC said 322 Covid-19 patients were in hospitals last week, while 401 were in hospitals a week earlier.

Last week, there were eight patients in hospitals with severe illness (12 previously). 28 deaths of Covid-19 patients were recorded (29 a week earlier). The number of reported deaths had been in the age group “50 years and over,” the SPKC said, and in at least six cases the primary diagnosis was Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the incidence of flu, while increasing last week, remained low, so this is a particularly favorable moment for vaccination, the SPKC said.
